Die Vereinbarkeit der Lean Philosophie mit den neuen digitalen Möglichkeiten der Industrie 4.0 wird in Wissenschaft und Praxis kontrovers diskutiert. Trotz der teilweisen Widersprüche dieser Ansätze wird eine schlanke Produktion als Voraussetzung für eine zielführende Digitalisierung angesehen. In diesem Beitrag wird aufgezeigt, welchen Einfluss die Digitalisierung auf Unternehmen haben kann, wie sie sich auf ein schlankes Produktionssystem auswirkt und wie eine richtungsweisende Vision für Industrie 4.0 aussehen kann.

Die Wertstromanalyse ist eine weit verbreitete und bewährte Methode, welche es ermöglicht, wertstromübergreifend Prozesse abzubilden, zu analysieren und Ideen zur Verbesserung abzuleiten. Die Digitalisierung der Produktion unter dem Begriff Industrie 4.0 verspricht neue Möglichkeiten, die Produktion effizienter zu gestalten oder gar zu revolutionieren. Nur wenige Unternehmen können jedoch eine Produktion von Grund auf neu planen und dabei alle Möglichkeiten von Industrie 4.0 berücksichtigen. Vor allem für Unternehmen, die eine bestehende Produktion digital aufrüsten wollen, gilt es, einen neuen Ansatz aufzuzeigen. Dieser Ansatz nutzt die bewährten Methoden der Schlanken Produktion und bildet gleichzeitig die Möglichkeiten der Digitalisierung systematisch ab, um anschließend Verbesserungsmaßnahmen abzuleiten.

Maschinelles Lernen ermöglicht es, Gesetzmäßigkeiten automatisch aus Eingangsdaten und verknüpften Zielwerten zu „erlernen“ und Vorhersagen abzuleiten. Dies kann in der Produktion zur Prozessstabilisierung genutzt werden. Ein strukturierter Implementierungsansatz ist nötig, der datentechnische Anforderungen definiert und den Nutzen der digitalen zur analogen Problemlösungen abwägt. Am Institut PTW der TU Darmstadt wurde ein solcher Ansatz entwickelt. Erste Versuche zeigen, dass die Methode gezieltes maschinelles Lernen unterstützt und akkurate Vorhersagen zur Prozessstabilisierung ermöglicht.
