To enhance assessment o/student learning. the Brigham YtJUng University (BYU) Faculty Center undertook a needs assessment toguide newinitiatives. Researchers reviewed resultsfrom theNational Survey of'StudentEngagement andan earlier BYU faculty survey. In addition. they conducted a qualitative study withfaculty and administrators. Thequalitative study can serve asa modelfor otherfaculty developers considering newinitiatives. The findings raised thought-provoking issuesforfaculty development. particularly faculty readiness. As a result ofthis research. the center bolsteredcurrent services anddeveloped newones tosupport theassessment o/student learning.
