The current share of plastic in waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) is considerable approximately 25%. This potential should be used by recycling to create economic, environmental and financial benefits. In order to investigate the influence of potential label impurities that can occur as contaminations in recycled plastics, a testing series based on controlled contamination and shredding of virgin polycarbonate (PC)/acrylonitrile–butadiene–styrene (ABS) was developed. PC/ABS granules and paper labels as well as two different types of polypropylene (PP1 and PP2) in different concentrations were stepwise processed and injection moulded into specimens. The influence of the three different impurities and their concentrations on the mechanical properties of the plastic were investigated.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
