Bulk metallic glasses exhibit high corrosive resistance, good tribological behavior, and low thermal conductivity. The production of metallic glass using Thermal Spray technology is a novel approach. In this study, the manufacturing of iron-based metallic glass coatings by high velocity oxygen fuel spraying is investigated. For this purpose individually designed, amorphous feedstock materials are used. By means of X-Ray-Diffraction and Differential Scanning Calorimetry amorphous structures are identified. Subsequently, the thermal diffusivities are determined by means of Laser-Flash method. The low thermal diffusivity measured proves the potential of metallic glasses as thermal barrier coatings for low temperature applications, such as combustion engines.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
