In this paper, we describe an approach to audiovisual data modeling for multimedia integration and synchronization. The approach chosen consists in using description tools from Multimedia Description Schemes of standard MPEG-7 to describe audiovisual contents and in integrating these description models into a multimedia integration and synchronization model close to SMIL. The resulting model provides relevant specification tools for the fine integration of multimedia fragments into multimedia presentations. An authoring environment illustrates the authoring features that can be obtained thanks to these integrated models.
Abstract. This paper contributes to the modeling of audiovisual information with a particular focus on the description needs for the composition of video elements (character, shot, scene, etc.) with other media information (text, sound, image, etc) inside multimedia document. This model has been experimented through an authoring and presentation tool called VideoMadeus. The resultants are illustrated with several examples of document where spatio-temporal synchronization of video is required.
Abstract. In this paper, we i n tegrate some results on automatic structuration of video in a multimedia authoring system. For that purpose, we identify the speci c video structuration requirements of this kind of application and we propose an XML syntax for the description of the structure, the temporal and spatial organization of video. Finally we d escribe a prototype application that takes advantage of this structured video format.

Declarative definition of multimedia presentation such as provided by SMIL standard can be considered as the most significant advance in the multimedia integration domain. However, the requirements of a model that could express richer scenarios for presentations are always a challenge. The work presented here proposes an extended model based on the concept of structured media and sub-elements that allows a finer granularity and a more semantic specification of significant events and locations inside media fragments. The new media fragments can be composed in multimedia scenarios through the specification of temporal, spatial and spatio-temporal relations. Moreover, we propose an abstract animation model that can be combined with the intra-media temporal structuration to specify animation effects in a flexible, not redundant and easy to maintain way. The underlying model is the Madeus model that is a flexible model based on the structural, interval, region and relative constraints. This paper describes the subelement and the abstract animation models and shows how they are implemented in the Madeus multimedia framework. A complete schema of the video authoring tool based on this model is also specified. Thanks to that, the fine-grained authoring of multimedia scenarios with video media can be done in an easy and effective way.
