Acupuncture has been proved to be effective in many diseases, but the effect of acupuncture on sciatica caused by lumbar disc herniation is not clear. Our aim was to explore the efficacy and safety of acupuncture on sciatica caused by lumbar disc herniation. A total of 73 lumbar disc herniation patients with sciatica in our hospital were selected and randomly divided into the study group (acupuncture, n=37) and control group (sham acupuncture, n=36). The results showed that there were no significant differences in leg pain visual analogue scale, low back pain visual analogue scale or Oswestry Disability Index score at baseline between the study group and the control group. Compared with baseline, patients in both groups improved significantly in leg pain visual analogue scale, low back pain visual analogue scale and Oswestry Disability Index score. During treatment, improvements in leg pain visual analogue scale, low back pain visual analogue scale and Oswestry Disability Index score were all faster for patients in the study group. However, this short term benefit of acupuncture therapy was no longer significant by 16 th w. In addition, acupuncture therapy achieved a faster rate of perceived recovery. In terms of safety, acupuncture has been proved to be safe without obvious side effects. In acupuncture can effectively relieve sciatica caused by lumbar disc herniation in the early stage and can be used as an important auxiliary means of early treatment.
The aim of the present study was to evaluate the clinical effect of percutaneous vertebroplasty (PVP) in the treatment of old osteoporotic vertebral compression fracture (OVCF) pain. A retrospective study was conducted on the clinical and imaging data of 31 patients with old OVCF treated by PVP from June 2010 to September 2011. Clinical efficacy was evaluated by the visual analog scale (VAS) scores, the oswestry disability index (ODI), the Cobb angle, and vertebral kyphotic angle at pre-operation and post-operation 3 days, 3 months, and 12 months. The VAS scores and ODI scores of 3 day, 3 month, and 12 month after PVP were significantly improved compared with those before operation ( P < .05), but the Cobb angle and vertebral kyphosis angle were not significantly improved compared with those before operation ( P > .05). PVP can effectively relieve the pain caused by old OVCF, and the motor ability of the patients is improved obviously. However, the recovery of Cobb angle and vertebral kyphosis angle was not obvious.
In this paper, we study a unified model of dark matter and dark energy obtained from Dirac–Born–Infeld (DBI) action in string theory. Two accelerated expansions in universe can be unified in this action. By using the Markov Chain Monte Carlo method, we fit the current observational data to constrain the model parameters in this unified model, where various density parameters as model parameters are included, and their constraint values are: [Formula: see text], [Formula: see text], [Formula: see text] and [Formula: see text]. In addition, the Hubble constant and cosmic age are [Formula: see text] and [Formula: see text] (Gyr), respectively. According to the constraint results on model parameters we discuss the evolutions of some cosmological quantities in structure formation, such as the density contrast and the growth variable. At last, the evolution of geometrical quantity is studied to distinguish the unified models of dark sectors with the cosmological constant model. It is shown that this unified model of dark matter and dark energy is attractive to interpret the accelerating universe.
