ObjetivoDescrever amostra de 334 idosos atendidos em ambulatórios do Hospital de Clínicas da Universidade Estadual de Campinas quanto ao perfil sociodemográfico e clínico- -psicológico e avaliar a relação entre baixa escolaridade e as variáveis clínicas. MétodosEsta pesquisa transversal com foco descritivo foi realizada com os dados digitais dos prontuários dos pacientes com transtorno mental, seguidos nas áreas de Geriatria, Psiquiatria e Neurologia do Hospital de Clínicas da Universidade Estadual de Campinas. Avaliou-se gênero, faixa etária, estado conjugal, escolaridade, diagnóstico psiquiátrico através da Classificação Internacional de Doenças, comorbidades, número de consultas no ano anterior à pesquisa, tempo de tratamento e óbitos. Para comparar os grupos segundo níveis de escolaridade, utilizou-se o teste Qui-quadrado, com nível de significância de 5% (p<0,05). ResultadosVerificou-se que a amostra era composta predominantemente por mulheres (65,5%); por idosos na faixa etária entre 70-79 anos (41,3%); casados (56,6%); e com ensino fundamental incompleto (65,0%). Os transtornos mentais orgânicos estavam presentes em 56,9% da amostra, seguidos por 28,1% com transtornos de humor. A baixa escolaridade teve associação positiva com tempo de tratamento, número de consultas e presença de comorbidades. ConclusãoO conhecimento das características dessa população pode ajudar a compreender as interrelações entre envelhecimento e os sinais/sintomas dos transtornos mentais, visando o planejamento, o diagnóstico e o tratamento precoce e mais eficiente.
CAMPINAScaracterísticas clínico-psicológicas, verificou-se predomínio dos Transtornos Mentais Orgânicos nos Ambulatórios relacionados da Geriatria e Neurologia, sendo que os Transtornos de Humor tiveram maior registro na Psiquiatria com 44,4% dos diagnósticos. Em relação ao número de comorbidades registradas, verificou-se que 76,3% dos idosos atendidos na Geriatria apresentavam comorbidades associadas, sendo que o maior tempo de tratamento foi encontrado nos pacientes da Psiquiatria, que também registrou o maior número de consultas por paciente, e foi o único local com pacientes acompanhados em três ou mais ambulatórios. Em relação aos idosos com Transtornos de Humor, evidenciou-se que os sujeitos com menos de 80 anos, do sexo feminino, analfabetos, sem companheiros, e que comparecimento a maior número de consultas associaramse positivamente com a presença desses Transtornos.
