Electronic control units (ECU) play a more andmore important role in the development of road vehicles. Forecasts lead up to 25% of the total vehicle value in 2000. The increasing complexity and stringent quality and cost requirements mandate tremendous improvements in the specification and design process. This paper presents the cooperative activities at Daimler-Benz research and Mercedes-Benz development departments to install an optimized design process.
System Integration of Vehicle Electronics by NetworksThis paper describes the integration concepts of electronic control units (ECU) within automobiles by in-vehicle networks. The basic aims of the system integration is to reduce costs and to reach new customer benefits. Furthermore, an increased reliability and availability of the different electric and electronic components will be possible. Actual trends and future developments will be discussed such as modularization and standardization of the ECU software, the vehicle module orientation of the different electronic controlled functions or future system concepts without mechanical backup and the corresponding fault tolerant ECU concepts in conjunction with their communication structures.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
