This communication deals with the modelling and simulation of a fixed-displacement axial-piston pump used in aerospace electro-hydrostatic actuators. The pump model is developed in the LMS-AMESim simulation environment to support the development of fault detection and identification features. The model-based fault diagnosis method is introduced first and the modelling needs are addressed. Then, a system-level pump model is proposed with special considerations to model architecture. The different ways to improve the model’s realism are reviewed, in particular concerning energy losses (bearing friction, leakages in gaps), barrel force balance, piston back pumping, piston eccentricity and pump loading for tests. Finally, directions of research in system-level modelling of hydraulic effects are suggested.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
