We examine the role context plays in expatriates' adjustment, specifi cally the extent of expatriates' contact with locals. We take data from 20 semistructured interviews with Luxembourgers, international executives settled in Luxembourg for more than ten years, 20 with fi rm-assigned and self-initiated expatriates in Luxembourg, 20 with international executives in fi ve other fi nancial centers (Zurich, Singapore, London, Frankfurt, and Paris), and four with expatriates' leaders in Luxembourg. Drawing on social learning theory, we show that in the highly international context of a Big Four fi rm in Luxembourg, expatriates interact mostly with their international counterparts, feel they meet the demands of their host environment, learn appropriate behavior from their fellow expatriates, and see little need to interact with locals. Our results suggest that the stress the current literature lays on the importance of relationships with locals for expatriates' adjustment is context bound and that in more international contexts, relationships with locals may be of less importance.Hélène Langinier is an associate professor at EM Strasbourg-University of Strasbourg and she is a member of Humanis Research Center. The aim of this article is to better understand how the innovation ecosystem of Aalto University, in Helsinki, Finland, was structured in the early 2000s. Relying on an analysis of secondary data as well as on the principles of a structural analysis of the network, we located the actors and their connections over the emergence period of this ecosystem. The results show the coexistence of two spaces organized as socio-cognitive networks able to interact and reinforce each other. A territorialized space, focused on an innovation dynamic built on the convergence strategy of the three university rectors involved at Aalto; and a deterritorialized space built by a community of actors focused on the affirmation of proposals and ideas to implement new innovation governance practices.
