The Ail's of combustion at 298.1°K. of diazoaminobenzene, benzotriazole and 2-triazoethanol were found to be 1582-7g ± 0.31, 794.97 ± 0.21, and 381.92 ± 0.38 kcal. per mole, respectively. From these the enthalpies of formation from the elements and from the gaseous atoms have been calculated. The resonance energies of diazoaminobenzene and benzotriazole have been estimated.In connection with a study of the physical properties of some triazo compounds1 in this Laboratory, it seemed of interest to determine the heats of combustion of some of these compounds and of similar compounds containing three adjacent nitrogen atoms. Since the structural properties of the N3 group in each of the three compounds selected are known to be different, the energy relationships should be different also.
Partial esters of cellulose varying in degree of substitution from 0.02 to 0.58 were prepared by reacting cellulose immersed in dimethylformamide with either perfluorobutyryl chloride or perfluorooctanoyl chloride in the presence of a tertiary aromatic amine. The use of essentially homogeneous solutions of acid chlorides resulted in products which retained properties of the original cotton and showed in addition oil and water repellency which was durable to dry cleanings and aqueous launderings in the presence of neutral detergents. Rates of uncatalyzed hydrolysis of the perfluorooctanoyl cellulose esters were determined at 25°, 35°, and 45° C., and the rate of the alkaline catalyzed hydrolysis was estimated at 25° C. The energy and entropy of activation for the uncatalyzed hydrolysis were determined.
