Konfliktund Krisensituationen lösen als Erstes Angstund Unsicherheitsgefühle aus. Verschwörungstheorien können individuell und kollektiv einen Versuch darstellen, mit solchen Ängsten zurechtzukommen. Nach einer historischen Einordnung derartiger Phänomene werden entwicklungspsychologische Wurzeln von Verschwörungsmentalitäten erörtert. Anschließend werden persönliche und gesellschaftliche Funktionen von Verschwörungstheorien diskutiert. Besonders betont werden die narzisstischen Aspekte des Verschwörungsdenkens und außerdem seine gruppenund massenpsychologischen Elemente. Ihre gewalttätigen Folgen werden angerissen. Am Ende wird die Frage behandelt: »Was könnte gegen Verschwörungstheorien helfen«?
Nach einer Begriffsklärung von Heimat werden entwicklungspsychologische Aspekte der Heimatbildung untersucht. Aktuelle Befunde von Entheimatung und Heimatverlust und ihre psychosozialen Folgen werden diskutiert. Der Psycho-sozio-pathologie von Heimat kann nur durch die Förderung einer stabilen inneren Heimat begegnet werden. Sie erlaubt eine Toleranz für Differenz.
