Aimed at extending the incipient knowledge of Dicranocentrus in Brazil, in this study we describe and illustrate the morphology and chaetotaxy of four new species from Espírito Santo, Minas Gerais and São Paulo States and also two new records of D. heloisae for Minas Gerais and São Paulo States. The new species D. magnus sp.n., D. albicephalus sp.n. and D. marimutti sp.n. belong to the gracilis-group and D. pikachu sp.n. to the marias-group. A map with their distribution in Brazil and a table with Neotropical species’ main characteristics are also provided. The species herein reported represent the first record of Dicranocentrus for São Paulo State.
Two new species of Dicranocentrus from Southeastern Brazil are described: D. melinus sp. nov. and D. cuprum sp. nov., both from "Parque Nacional da Serra do Gandarela" (Minas Gerais State), Brazil. These species can be included to gracilis-group due to the absence of chaeta A1, S2, Ps and up to 6+6 chaetae P on dorsal head. A male genital plate is for the first time illustrated for the genus.
Dicranocentrus heloisae Arlé & Mendonça 1982 is redescribed based on specimens collected from its type locality, "Parque Nacional da Tijuca", Rio de Janeiro municipality, State of Rio de Janeiro. The presence of 6+6 macrochaetae S, 1+1 macrochaeta P, and absence of macrochaetae A1 and Ps dorsally on head, puts Dicranocentrus heloisae in the gracilis-group sensu Mari-Mutt (1979). This species is easily indentified mainly due to general color pattern of pale yellow on body with bluish to blackish pigmentation on head. Taxonomic characteristics not illustrated in the original description are given (dorsal cephalic chaetotaxy, sensory organ of the third antennal segment, eyes, labrum, maxillary palp, outer labial papilla, labial triangle, trochanteral organ, femur, tibiotarsus, unguis, ventral tube and tenaculum). New records from other localities in Brazil are provided. A neotype for Dicranocentrus heloisae is designated.
Dicranocentrus heloisae is an easily recognized species by color pattern. It was described from the “Parque Nacional da Tijuca” and its distribution was previously restricted to Tijuca Forest, located in Rio de Janeiro State. Here we report the second record for the specie with distance about 320 km from its type locality and first record of the genus in the Espírito Santo state.
