Em virtude da alta contaminação proveniente do uso de defensivos agrícolas, este artigo procura analisar os danos, as consequência e a poluição causados pelo uso dos agrotóxicos na agricultura e os impactos ambientais diretos e indiretos provocados pela utilização contínua desses agroquímicos. A metodologia foi realizada de forma qualitativa, por meio de pesquisas bibliográficas, de maneira a analisar as consequências causadas pelo uso irracional dos defensivos químicos agrícolas, considerando os agrotóxicos mais utilizados no Brasil e os benefícios de uma agricultura sustentável. No Brasil, as classes de agrotóxicos mais utilizados são: os herbicidas (44,0%), inseticidas (19,8%) e fungicidas (16,1%). Os mesmos são altamente prejudiciais para a saúde humana, pois, essas três categorias representam uma grande quantidade de agrotóxicos que se estima em torno de 500 mil toneladas, usada anualmente no Brasil. A alta produtividade agrícola do agronegócio brasileiro é responsável pelo maior consumo de agrotóxicos, de modo que os cultivos de soja, milho e cana, juntos, respondem por praticamente 70% de todo seu uso no Brasil, dessa forma, constatou-se que estes três cultivos corresponderam a 82% de todo o volume de agrotóxicos utilizados no País. Portanto, a literatura consultada traz significativas colaborações na produção científica sobre os impactos negativos em relação ao uso de agrotóxicos sobre o meio ambiente e a saúde humana. Os produtores precisam realizar práticas agroecológicas, juntamente com o Manejo Integrado de Pragas para incentivar o manejo sustentável na agricultura brasileira com a finalidade de manutenção da qualidade ambiental e a obtenção de alimentos mais saudáveis.

Na Amazônia, a maioria dos diferentes tipos de solo é pobre, dessa forma, o pequeno produtor depende da queima da biomassa acumulada (corte e queima) para aumentar as qualidades nutricionais do solo e preparar a área para o cultivo por meio da cinza, que pode, por exemplo, aumentar enormemente a quantidade de potássio, cálcio e magnésio disponíveis nos solo. O presente trabalho tem como objetivo apresentar alternativas menos agressivas aos ecossistemas amazônicos no que se refere ao tradicional sistema de corte e queima amplamente utilizado por agricultores de todo o Brasil. Foi realizada uma revisão bibliográfica sobre o tema nas revistas acadêmicas científicas disponíveis on-line e impressas, reunindo alternativas para o uso do fogo encontrados nas fontes de consulta. As técnicas de preparo do solo sem o uso do fogo buscam principalmente eliminar queimadas descontroladas e recuperar a fertilidade do solo possibilitando assim a continuidade da atividade produtiva sem grandes riscos e impactos ao ecossistema local. Portanto, o uso de tecnologias e formas de manejo que possam de alguma forma mitigar a incidências de queimadas na Amazônia é primordial para o desenvolvimento sustentável das atividades produtivas desenvolvidas nesse bioma.
