RESUMO:O ioga, combinação de exercício físico leve, respiração lenta e meditação é considerada uma terapia alternativa e tem se mostrado eficaz no controle de pressão arterial (PA) elevada. O objetivo do presente estudo foi verificar o efeito agudo de uma sessão de ioga na pressão arterial (PA) e na frequência cardíaca (FC) de hipertensas durante uma hora após a sessão. Participaram do presente estudo 10 mulheres (média 58±10 anos) hipertensas controladas por medicamento. A PA e FC foram medidas utilizando aparelhos de monitorização ambulatorial da pressão arterial (MAPA) (WelchAllyn, ABPM 6100) posicionado no braço não dominante, e programado para fazer as medições a cada 10 minutos após a sessão de ioga. As voluntárias participaram de duas visitas, sendo uma apenas para controle, onde ficaram uma hora em repouso na posição sentada com o aparelho de MAPA e na segunda visita, cada participante fez uma sessão de uma hora de ioga e permaneceu uma hora sentada com o aparelho de MAPA. Os dados estão apresentados em mediana e variância interquartil (P75-P25). Para verificar a normalidade dos dados referente a PAS, PAD e FC foi aplicado o teste de Shapiro-Wilk. Optou-se pela utilização do teste de Friedman seguido pelas múltiplas comparações propostas por Dunn-Bonferroni, para comparar as os diferentes momentos e grupos. Os dados foram processados no programa estatístico SPSS 20.0 e o nível de significância adotado foi de P<0,05. A PAS do dia controle aumentou 7 mmHg e após o ioga aumentou 20 mmHg, ambos no minuto 60. Em relação à PAD do dia controle houve aumento de 2 mmHg e na sessão ioga, aumento de 8 mmHg, ambos no minuto 60. Referente à FC, durante a sessão controle e após a sessão de ioga houve diminuição na FC. Conclui-se que apenas uma sessão de ioga não contribuiu para a diminuição da PAS e PAD em mulheres hipertensas e que a FC diminui tanto com ou sem a realização do protocolo de ioga.Palavras-chaves: ioga, hipertensão, pressão arterial 1 Doutoranda em Educação Física pela UEL/UEM e professora do Curso Técnico em Massoterapia do Instituto Federal do Paraná -IFPR -Campus Londrina;
