In the present study, the potential of poly(ether imide) as corrosion protective coating for magnesium alloys was evaluated using the spin coating technique. The influence of different parameters on the coating properties was evaluated and the corrosion behaviour of the coatings was investigated using electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. The best corrosion protection was obtained preparing the coatings under N 2 atmosphere, using 15% wt. solution in N'N'-dimethylacetamide (DMAc) which resulted in a coating of approximately 2 µm thickness, with an initial impedance of 10 9 Ω cm 2 and of 10 5 Ω cm 2 after 240 h of exposure to a 3.5% NaCl solution.
In this study, three derivatives of poly(ether ether ketone) [PEEK] were prepared in suspension by nitration (NO 2 -PEEK), reduction to the amino group (NH 2 -PEEK) and carbonyl reduction (PEEK-OH). These modified polymers were characterized by NMR, IR spectroscopy and thermogravimetric analysis. They showed interesting characteristics, such as, basicity and higher solubility in organic solvents, like DMF, for use as membranes and composites in different applications.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
