INTRODUÇÃO: A pandemia de COVID-19 tem imposto à saúde necessidades de pesquisas científicas que visem descobrir estratégias de prevenção e tratamento do SarS-CoV-2. Dentre elas, o tratamento com plasma convalescente (PC) surge como uma alternativa para reduzir a mortalidade hospitalar de indivíduos em grave estado de saúde. OBJETIVOS: Analisar as implicações da terapia com PC em pacientes com COVID-19. MATERIAL E MÉTODOS: Realizou-se uma pesquisa bibliográfica nas bases de dados LILACS, EMBASE, MEDLINE, SCOPUS e SciELO, sendo selecionados artigos publicados em 2020 e 2021, em português, espanhol e inglês, utilizando os descritores ‘’COVID-19’’, “immunotherapy” e “hemotherapy”. Após triagem, foram escolhidos quatro artigos originais e um relato de caso para compor esse resumo. RESULTADOS E DISCUSSÃO: Um estudo de caso-controle envolvendo 1419 pessoas com COVID-19, em estado crítico, tratadas com PC, mostrou redução de mortalidade e tempo de internação. As melhores taxas de recuperação com PC foram identificadas em grupos de mulheres, 18-30 anos e grupo sanguíneo O+. Outra pesquisa verificou que dois pacientes transfundidos com PC melhoraram vários aspectos: redução do desconforto respiratório, abrandamento do quadro febril, benefícios na radiografia de tórax, diminuição do D-dímero e ausência de efeitos colaterais. Entretanto, um estudo composto por 103 pacientes com COVID-19 administrou PC em 52 pacientes, com melhora clínica de 51,9%, enquanto o grupo-controle (n = 51) apresentou benefícios em apenas 43,1%. Outro caso-controle, com 241 pacientes, mostrou que o grupo transfundido com PC (n = 64) apresentou uma menor incidência de mortalidade comparada ao grupo controle (12,5% vs 15,8%). Contudo, tal diferença na incidência de mortalidade não se mostrou significativa (P = 0,52). Adicionalmente, um coorte caso-controle com 24 pacientes e idade média de 64 anos, demonstrou que a mortalidade no grupo caso foi de 21% e no controle de 10%. Não houve diferença significativa entre os benefícios do tratamento com base nos dados de mortalidade. CONCLUSÃO: Ainda existem divergências entre inúmeros estudos de terapia com PC e seus reais impactos na diminuição da mortalidade hospitalar. Assim, pesquisas adicionais com maiores prazos e amostras de participantes são necessárias para avaliar segurança e eficácia do PC no cenário da COVID-19.
Cigarros eletrônicos (CE) são dispositivos a base de nicotina e outras substâncias cuja mistura é aquecida para gerar vapor. A princípio, os CE foram utilizados como uma opção mais segura em relação aos cigarros convencionais (CC), tornando-se uma alternativa também para o uso durante a gestação. Contudo, estudos recentes têm mostrado indícios de toxicidade pelo uso dos CE para o organismo humano. O objetivo deste estudo é esclarecer, com base na literatura científica vigente, os possíveis efeitos do uso de CE durante a gestação sobre o desenvolvimento fetal humano. A pesquisa bibliográfica foi feita por intermédio das bases de dados LILACS, MEDLINE, SCOPUS e EMBASE, onde, inicialmente, 448 artigos foram encontrados; após serem aplicados os critérios de inclusão e exclusão, um total de seis estudos foram selecionados para compor esta revisão. Os resultados de três artigos associaram o uso dos CE a maior probabilidade de baixo peso ao nascer (BPN), nascimento prematuro (NP) e pequenez para a idade gestacional (PIG); entretanto, outros três estudos não apresentaram diferenças significativas acerca do BPN, NP e PIG em comparação aos cigarros convencionais (CC). Logo, nota-se que a segurança do uso de CE para o feto durante a gestação é questionável, uma vez que, embora alguns artigos não apresentem resultados definitivos, há estudos que indicam potenciais malefícios para o desenvolvimento fetal.
Analisar o padrão/taxa de mortalidade em pacientes HIV positivo no Brasil, no período de 2016 até 2021. Métodos: Foram realizadas pesquisas em quatro bases de dados (MEDLINE, LILACS, Embase e Scopus), sendo selecionados os estudos relevantes para a temática. Resultados: Verificou-se que a mortalidade por HIV/AIDS se relaciona, em sua maioria, com uma segunda infecção, como tuberculose e histoplasmose, além da associação com a não adesão à TARV. Somando-se a isso, constatou-se uma maior prevalência de óbitos entre adultos do sexo masculino, entre pretos e pardos, pessoas com baixo nível de escolaridade e moradores das regiões Norte e Nordeste. Considerações finais: Diante desse contexto, esse estudo pode ser útil para o melhor planejamento de políticas públicas voltadas para pessoas que vivem com HIV/AIDS, contribuindo também para o conhecimento de profissionais e acadêmicos da área da saúde acerca do padrão epidemiológico da mortalidade por essa condição, a fim de que haja a redução da mortalidade por HIV/AIDS no Brasil e a melhora na qualidade de vida dessas pessoas.
