A necessidade da educação multicultural é uma realidade, podendo ser referida como competência cultural ou ainda, sensibilidade cultural, especialmente aquela direcionada aos profissionais de saúde que atendem pessoas indígenas. A pesquisa teve como objetivo compreender as vivências de profissionais da saúde sobre a qualificação do cuidado direcionado a população indígena, especialmente na transição do cuidado. Por meio de um questionário semiestruturado foram realizadas entrevistas com profissionais experientes na transição do cuidado de pessoas indígenas Xikrin em uma cidade do sudeste do Pará (Brasil). As transcrições das entrevistas foram seguidas da análise de conteúdo. Observamos que a dificuldade na comunicação pode afetar tanto a qualidade da continuidade de tratamento, quanto a adesão aos serviços de saúde pela população indígena. A amplitude da dificuldade, tanto pelo fator cultural, quanto pela capacitação profissional, advém possivelmente de uma lacuna na formação acadêmica.
