Leishmaniasis has an infectious character caused by the protozoan trypanosomatatides of the genus Leishmania and species Leishmania chagasi. It is a serious zoonosis that when untreated can be lethal (Souza at al, 2018). The study aims to make a current survey of VL cases in the city of Araguatins, countryside of the State of Tocantins, from 2014 to 2018. According to data collected, in the period 2014-2018, 260 cases of VL were reported in the city of Araguatins-TO, with the highest incidence being 2016 (62 cases). Of these 81% (211) were found in the urban area and 19% (49) in the rural area, a total of 47% were from Men living in the urban area, and 11% lived in the rural area, of the women notified 34% lived in the urban area and only 8% in the rural area. From this we can say that this study agrees with the Ministry of Health's epidemiological survey of VL (2018) in identifying the prevalence of the disease in men. However, it was found that more attention is needed by the competent entities in the promotion and prevention of men's health and more vigilance to VL rich factors in the urban area. We can consider that the rural exodus may be a relevant factor in the new spatial parameters of the disease.
