Introdução: No conjunto das alterações provocadas pela condição nutricional do paciente hospitalizado apresenta influência a respeito de sua evolução clínica e capacidade de identificá-la na admissão, dar-se faz efetivo para garantir um apoio adequado da equipe multidisciplinar, pois, o papel exercido pela nutrição no suporte a saúde e qualidade de vida destes pacientes é fundamental. Objetivos: Mostrar que a simples observação do Indicede Massa Corpórea (IMC) de pacientes internados pode contribuir como auxílio nas intervenções de enfermagem para sugestão da adequação nutricional. Metodologia: Estudo de corte seccional, prospectivo, descritivo e quantitativo. Resultados: O perfil destes mostrou que tinham idade entre 21 a 49 anos, 75% eram portadores de doenças imunossupressoras (HIV/AIDS e etc), o IMC evidenciou que 45% apresentaram valores menores que 18, caracterizando assim um baixo peso e necessitando de intervenção nutricional. Destes com baixo peso, apenas 25% apresentaram, ganho de peso durante a internação. Conclusão: O déficit de ganho de peso entre os pacientes investigados pode ser em virtude da falta de observação de alguma medida de intervenções de enfermagem para sugestão da adequação nutricional.
