I -IntroduçãoApós 1990, a variável democrática 1 passou a exercer importância fundamental para a análise e compreensão das mudanças globais na Nova Ordem Mundial. O início da Quarta Onda de Democratização (MCFAUL, 2002) 2 e o surgimento da unimultipolaridade (HUNTINGTON, 1999) evidenciaram um cenário imprevisível e intrinsecamente dinâmico na arena internacional. O mundo que se redescobria apresentava profundas transformações refletidas em um amálgama de rede s globalizadas, atores diversificados e agendas múltiplas. Nesse universo, as variáveis domésticas foram inseridas na agenda global, impactando diretamente o comportamento e a ideologia da política externa dos Estados.No século XXI, a questão democrática ganhou destaque não somente com a exportação da democracia liberal para o Afeganistão e o Iraque, mas também com as Revoluções Árabes e com a constante deterioração da democracia no mundo de 2006 a 2014 (FREEDOM HOUSE, 2014). Apesar da relevância da democracia na construção teórica das Relações Internacionais, poucas pesquisas foram realizadas a fim de sistematizar o seu papel na disciplina. Casarões (2012) foi um dos poucos acadêmicos que se dedicou a este desafio, analisando a existência das premissas democráticas em perspectiva histórica: do idealismo de Woodrow Wilson às teorias pós-modernas. Inserido no esforço de endossar essa incipiente subárea de estudo, este artigo tem como objetivo compreender a importância democracia na Teoria das Relações Internacionais (TRI) no pós-Guerra Fria, com foco nas abordagens liberais, da teoria crítica e construtivista.
Primeiramente agradeço a Deus pela oportunidade de ter concluído este estudo doutoral.
