Os acidentes em ambiente escolar são comuns no cotidiano das educadoras e, de modo geral, são estes os principais responsáveis pelo primeiro atendimento aos estudantes. O conhecimento e a postura das educadoras podem influenciar diretamente no desfecho da situação atendida e por essa razão, este estudo teve como objetivo conhecer como as educadoras de uma escola municipal reagem diante de uma situação de urgência/emergência no cotidiano escolar. A metodologia adotada foi a pesquisa qualitativa, de abordagem descritivo-exploratória. Participaram 16 educadoras de uma escola municipal. A coleta de dados deu-se por meio da aplicação de questionários, discutidos pela análise de conteúdo. Os resultados indicaram que as principais posturas adotadas pelas educadoras foi chamar o Serviço de Atendimento Móvel de Urgência (SAMU) ou os pais do aluno. Quanto aos acidentes mais frequentes, destacam-se as fraturas e os traumas. A maioria das educadoras não se sente segura em atuar em situações que requeiram primeiros socorros. As situações em que elas mais realizam a conduta adequada são em casos de convulsões, seguidos por parada cardiorrespiratória, fratura na coluna cervical, contusão, dificuldade respiratória e, por fim, desmaios e hemorragias. Esse estudo revelou a dificuldade das educadoras em lidar com as situações que requeiram primeiros socorros. Tal dificuldade foi associada à falta de conhecimento para a intervenção e a falta de habilidade para prestar os primeiros socorros. Depreende-se, portanto, que há desconhecimento por parte destas educadoras sobre as técnicas adequadas em casos de acidentes na escola. Destaca-se a importância de novos estudos nesta área e, principalmente, de capacitações em primeiros socorros para as educadoras.
