Es wurde deshalb diese Slure von verschiedenen Forschern als eine eigene Oxydationsstufe des Phosphors, von anderen als eine Verbindung von Phosphoroxyd oder von phosphoriger Saure mit Phosphorsaure betrachtet. Die Salze , welche F o u r c r o y und V a u q U e 1 in mittelst dieser Siiure und Kali resp. Natron dargestellt haben (siehe G m e 1 i n bei den betr phosphorigsauren Salzen), konnten den gesuchten Beweis nicht liefern, da sie nicht rein gewesen, auch splter, wie es scheint, nicht mehr dargestellt worden $ind. Sauerstoff, worms dieser die Formel PpOB ableitete, welche 46,26 pC. Phosphor und 53,74 pC. Seuerstoff verlangt ; die D u 1 o D g'schen Zahlen warden O b igens eben so gut zu der Formel PO, passen, welche 49,2 pC. Phosphor und 50,8 pC. Als B u n s e n in einem Colleg des Wintersemesters 1856/57 die Eigenschaften der Borsäure vortrug, kam ich auf den Gedanken, die Säuren mittelst Boraxlösung zu messen, denn ich hatte kurz vbrher bei maassanalytischen Arbeiten in der M o h r 'schen Apotheke die Nachtheile der Aetzkali-, sowie der Sodalösung kennen gelernt. :Nachdem ich durch Versuche die Brauchbarkeit der Boraxlösung zu diesem Zwecke glaubte nachgewiesen zu haben, machte ich M o h r davon Mittheilung, wie dies von M o h r in dessen Lehrbuch der Titrirmethode, I. Aufl., Bd. 2, S. 102 erwähnt worden und, wesentlich gekürzt, in die späteren Auflagen übergegangen ist. M o h r hat die Benutzung der Boraxlösung aus später zu erörternden Gründen nicht befürwortet und mir war es wegen baid darauf erfolgten Uebertritts in die Praxis nicht möglich, näher auf die -Sache einzugehen. Wenn ich jetzt das damals Versäumte nachhole~ so glaube ich Vielen, welche grosse Mengen :Normallauge gebrauchen, damit einen Dienst zu erweisen. Die nächste Veranlassung dazu sind zwei Veröffentlichungen von E. R i m b a eh1) : »zum Atomgewicht des Bors« und »Borax als Grundlage der Alkalimetrie«, deren Inhalt ich hier als bekannt voraussetze. Der Borax hat vor den ätzenden und kohlensauren Alkalien den grossen Vorzug, dass er sehr leicht chemisch rein darstellbar ist, keine Mutterlauge einschliesst, dass er weder verwittert, noch Feuchtigkeit aus der Luft aufnimmt Und dass seine wässrige Lösung voraussichtlich unbegrenzt haltbar ist. 2) 1) Ber. d. deutsch, ehem.
