The IITesent IJaper is to report on the methods Jor the identification oj minerals in sinter which is jointly studied by the fron-M aking Committee oj j alJan Society for the Promotion oj Science. The object oj this study was to establish the standard methods Jor the identification oj major minerals con tained in ordinary sin ters and lime sinters and to find Ollt whether these methods are aPJ)licab le to the IJellets or not. The minerals mainry studied in this u;ork are a-hematite, r-hematite, magnetite, wustile , Jayalite, calcium Jerrites (binary and ternary), iron-gelzlenite, lime-olivine, and calciferolls magnetite. Since al'lJearance and colour 1)Iay an important j)art Jo r the identification oj various minerals, the results obtained in the curren t study are mainly shown by pllOtogral)hs oj /.)'I);cal structures.
