O texto que apresentamos é um ensaio teórico proveniente da revisão bibliográfica e de parte dos resultados presentes na dissertação de mestrado da primeira autora, sob orientação do segundo autor, pelo PROFBIO-UECE. Com a consolidação do uso das TICs na educação e em virtude do crescimento da elaboração e uso de Objetos de Aprendizagem (OA) na educação científica, é pertinente se discutir a avaliação do potencial pedagógico desses recursos, possibilitando aos docentes uma seleção consciente do material a ser utilizado em sala de aula. Desse modo, o objetivo desse ensaio é apresentar os principais aspectos da Teoria da Carga Cognitiva (TCC) e propor um instrumento de avaliação de Objetos de Aprendizagem (OA) a partir de um conjunto selecionado de efeitos da TCC.
A Evolução Biológica (EB) constitui um eixo integrador dos conhecimentos biológicos produzidos pelos demais campos da Biologia; contudo, pesquisas apontam para a dificuldade do seu ensino e um déficit na sua aprendizagem. A Teoria da Carga Cognitiva (TCC) pode orientar tanto a elaboração de melhores recursos didáticos, que efetivamente contribuam para o processo de ensino-aprendizagem, quanto a construção de instrumentos para avaliar pedagogicamente tais recursos. Desse modo, o objetivo dessa pesquisa foi avaliar o potencial pedagógico de Objetos de Aprendizagem (OA) relacionados à EB a partir de alguns efeitos da TCC. Os 14 OAs relacionados à EB foram retirados do Banco Internacional de Objetos Educacionais (BIOE) e avaliados a partir dos efeitos da atenção dividida, modalidade, redundância e elementos isolados.
