Promesas y PráctIcas curatIVas de deVotos "a nombre de" la VIrgen maría y de crIsto en el noroeste argentIno en el transcurso del sIglo xIx al xx 1 resumenAbordamos las promesas formuladas en situación de enfermedad por devotos del Noroeste argentino en el transcurso del siglo xIx al xx y las prácticas realizadas por los enfermos, sus familiares o personas cercanas para lograr la curación. Tenemos en cuenta las advocaciones marianas y crísticas a las cuales acudían los promesantes, el uso de imágenes religiosas y de objetos con propiedades tanto terapéuticas como alucinógenas, los rituales realizados y la identificación o preparación de remedios. Consideramos a la promesa como un conjunto integrado de representaciones y prácticas de sacralización y curativas para afrontar enfermedades diversas. El corpus documental comprende catecismos, narraciones de promesas y relatos históricos sobre tradiciones religiosas. Un segundo grupo lo conforman crónicas, herbolarios y guías terapéuticas.Palabras claves: Argentina, Noroeste, siglo xIx, siglo xx, Virgen María, Cristo, devotos promesantes, promesas, prácticas curativas.
abstractWe will examine devotion promises made by devotees in state of illness, living in the Argentinian Northwest during the course of the nineteenth to the twentieth century. The article will address the practices performed by the sick, their relatives or close people for healing purposes. We take into account the Marian and Christic devotions to which the promising devotees resorted to, the use of religious images and objects (with both therapeutic and hallucinogenic properties), the rituals performed and the identification or preparation of medicines. We consider the promise as an integrated set of representations and enshrinement and healing practices to fight different diseases. The documentary corpus includes catechisms, narratives of promises and historical accounts of religious traditions. A second group consists of chronicles, herbalists and therapeutic guides.
Promesas y promesantes de la Virgen del Valle de Catamarca: enfermedad y experiencia religiosa en el noroeste argentino, a fines del siglo XIX * Resumen: Nos interesa analizar el proceso de conformación de la experiencia religiosa desde la práctica orante, devocional y terapéutica de la promesa vinculada a la resolución de enfermedad de carácter psicosomático, cuya mejoría se obtuvo mediante el recurso del devoto hacia la advocación de la Virgen del Valle de Catamarca, a fines del siglo XIX, en el noroeste argentino. Consideramos la instancia de formulación de la promesa como práctica orante de pedimento por parte del devoto promesante. Este dossier reúne trabajos articulados en torno a la problemática de la confi guración de religiosidades en varios espacios americanos. En un ampliorecorrido temporal, que se extiende desde la centuria del XVII colonial hasta el actual siglo XXI, los artículos centran los análisis en las prácticas de los actores y a partir de ellas reconstruyen distintas experiencias religiosas. Cada una de las contribuciones que aquí presentamos han enfatizado algún aspecto en particular como el uso de materialidades, el desarrollo del culto y la celebración de fi estas en diferentes regiones: la frontera chaqueña, Buenos Aires, el Noroeste argentino, Puebla en México o La Merced en Salta.
Sumalao es un paraje rural ubicado en el sector centro oriental del valle de Lerma, a un poco más de 32 km al sur de la ciudad de Salta, en Argentina. Allí está emplazado un santuario, cuya imagen es un Cristo Crucificado en la advocación del Señor de Vilque, originaria del Perú, en Puno, devoción que tuvo gran adhesión durante la época colonial en el espacio andino debido a los circuitos comerciales que conectaban varias regiones. La devoción surgió a fines del siglo XVIII en vinculación el comercio de mulas, en una combinación entre calendario religioso y calendario de actividades económicas y que se comprende en su complejidad considerando su inserción en el espacio andino entre los periodos colonial e independiente.
