Identity characterizes each individual, especially for scholars, both lecturers, and students. This study aims to explore the identity of Islamic fashion styles within the scope of higher education in the city of Semarang. This research uses a qualitative approach with a case study method. The research informants consisted of four lecturers and four students at private and public campuses in the city of Semarang. The findings of this study indicate that one way to express an identity for muslim scholars to use islamic clothing or clothing. Clothing has now gone beyond its function to protect the body but has become a means of communication that can express one's identity. With the development of the times, clothing also has a role that changes with time. Now islamic fashion is a necessity for muslim scholars to follow trends while maintaining self-respect and covering their aurat (i.e. body parts required by Islam to be covered).
The object of this research is to analyze the functions and meanings of the characters of Wayang Potehi or Potehi puppet by taking the play of Shi Jin Kwie. The play is a popular fiction story which was later adapted into the story of Prabu Lisanpuro in Javanese theater (ketoprak). The results of the research found the organology structure of Wayang Potehi. It consists of 2, namely (1) parts of the body; head, hand, feet, and (2) clothing; along with ornaments and additional accessories such as swords and hats. The head section can be identified as the interpretation of the puppet character. For instance, an antagonist character depicted as if he was using a Balinese leak mask with his mouth open and angry. The clothes could be the interpretation of social status. For example, the villagers wear plain clothes without ornaments, while the nobles use yellow, red clothing with a dragon/ phoenix pattern. There are 4 types of character design in this show, specifically (1) the firm/ wise character, (2) the entertaining character, (3) the functionaries/ officials/ priyayi character, (4) the antagonist character. Especially for entertaining characters, it has a dual function; to return the underlying causes of the story and become the spy of the enemy. The research aims to know (1) the role of marriage with the same ethnic for Chinese people and (2) the obstacles for different ethnic relations. The research used qualitative descriptive methods. The research was conducted in Makassar city. Types and data sources used primary and secondary data.. There were 5 (five) informants as samples were interviewed and the results of these interviews were analyzed using several theories. The research result indicate that (1) the same ethnic marriage for Chinese people have several role for example, retaining custom, economy consideration of the candidate, culture and custom like diligent and work hard, considerations of business (developing business to be more advanced and big), heretics tradition, belief (religion). and past trauma for social friction.(2) Different ethnic relations caused pro and contra. The pro said different ethnic relations depend on each person who runs their relationship, agreement and approval from parents or family also have influence to that relations. Besides, if the candidate comes from different ethnic it still can be tolerated as long as its person accept to follow the Chinese tradition. Another response also said that it is not a big deal if the candidate not come from Chinese ethnic because the family tree from grandfather and grandmother have mixed with another ethnic.
Artikel ini menganalisa tentang selera keindaan yang mendapatkan intervensi dari politik praktis. Kondisi politik yang dimaksudkan adalah adanya INPRES no. 14 tahun 1967 yang berisi tentang larangan bagi Masyarakat Tionghoa di Indonesia untuk menggelar acara budaya di depan umum. Munculnya Inpres tersebut mempengaruhi eksistensi Masyarakat Tionghoa dan menyebabkan para pelaku seni untuk merubah fungsi musik yang awalnya bersifat hiburan menjadi pseudo ritual. Proses perpindahan fungsi tersebut juga berdampak pada letak keindahan, dimana ungkapan spontan seperti “ciamik”, perasaan kagum, dan gesture bahagia tereduksi secara politis. Pemeliharan pola dari pemerintah dengan adanya INPRES serta tuduhan subversif bagi warga negara yang melanggar, menyebabkan struktur kultural musik menjadi berubah pula. Seperti pemilihan lagu yang harus menghilangkan syair duniawi, pemilihan tempo musik dengan irama dinamis, dan genre musik. Hal ini menyebabkan letak citarasa keindahan dalam bermusik tidak bersifat universal, dikarenakan adanya kerinduan dari masyarakat setelah terbebas dari INPRES. Tujuan dari artikel ini adalah menganalisa bentuk pembelajaran/penularan ilmu kepada generasi berikutnya dengan penyesuaian kondisi eksternal seperti faktor sosial, politik, dan ekonomi. The intended political condition is the existence of INPRES no. 14 of 1967 which contained a prohibition on Chinese Communities in Indonesia to hold cultural events in public. The emergence of the INPRES influenced the existence of the Chinese community and caused the perpetrators of the arts to change the function of music which was originally as an entertainment into a pseudo ritual. The process of transferring this function also affects the aesthetics location, where spontaneous expressions such as "ciamik", feelings of awe, and gesture of happiness are reduced politically. The pattern maintenance from the government with the INPRES and allegations of subversion for citizens who violate causes the change of music cultural structure as well. Like the selection of songs that must eliminate worldly lyrics, using dynamic rhythms as the tempo, and musical genres. This causes the aesthetics of music cannot be enjoyed universally, due to the longing of the community after being freed from the INPRES. The purpose of this study is to analyze the form of learning or transmission of knowledge for the future generations with adjustments to the conditions of social, political, and economic factors.
