O carcinoma epidermóide em lábio representa cerca de 15% de todas as neoplasias em região de cabeça e pescoço e é responsável por cerca de 25% de todas as neoplasias malignas em cavidade oral. Em geral, se manifesta no lábio inferior e 90% dos casos acontecem no sexo masculino, 5:1 em relação ao sexo feminino. A raça branca é mais acometida, sendo comum na 5° e 6° décadas de vida e raro em crianças. São considerados fatores de risco exposição à radiação solar, tabagismo e etilismo. O câncer de lábio apresenta um bom prognóstico, desde que tratado adequadamente.
