O presente artigo trata das reconstruções monumentais ocorridas entre os anos de 2020 e 2021 na cidade da Japaratuba, Sergipe, a partir de pesquisa antropológica exploratória para identificação de novas monumentalizações na cidade, comparativamente às investigações realizadas anteriormente até a defesa da tese do ombreamento da memória do artista Arthur Bispo do Rosário com as culturas populares da cidade. Os rearranjos coloniais podem ser captados mediante observação da distribuição de monumentos em praça pública interessados em gravar o conjunto das manifestações culturais que são heranças e resistências ao passado colonial brasileiro, recebendo os contornos peculiares da região da zona da mata sergipana, apresentando narrativas que buscam no presente integrar os fazeres de pessoas, mestres e brincantes das culturas populares.
O presente artigo parte do interesse crescente observado nos últimos anos de pessoas em promoverem marcas de modificações em seus corpos em diversos aspectos, desde os mais externos, impactando na economia de capitais sociais e simbólicos, na reprodução de capitais raciais de desigualdades sociais e nos processos de reivindicação de poder pelo corpo até a crítica das ontologias do corpo. Em seguida, avança para a reflexão sobre como as sociedades marcadas pela cultura de modificações corporais podem estar antecipando diversificados processos de modificações corporais como um projeto de corpo modificado (Body Modification) com tecnologias corporais atualizadoras do corpo e definidoras, neste corpo, de componentes desejáveis bem como de componentes obsoletos, dos quais a memória humana.
