AbstractThis essay proposes two models for the relationship between Vladimir Nabokov's Lolita and its readers as allegories of the reaction of Late Modernist literature to the growing administration of culturethat is to say, as allegories of the way the novel reacts to its historical aging being progressively determined by the Culture Industry, as theorized by Adorno and Horkheimer (2006). Two basic models are outlined: the first one is defined by how the novel manipulates the reader in order to avoid being manipulated, forcing the reader to judge the possibility of the narrator's moral redemption and limiting him or herself to vicarious experiences of pleasure; and the second model refers to how Lolita demands being deciphered by the reader, which points to him or her ResumenEl presente trabajo presenta algunos modelos de la relación de Lolita, de Vladimir Nabokov, con su lector, como alegorías de la reacción de la literatura modernista tardía a la administración creciente de la cultura -o, específicamente, de la forma como la novela reacciona a su envejecimiento histórico, siendo progresivamente determinado por la industria cultural, a partir de su caracterización por Adorno y Horkheimer (2006).
Palavras-chave:David Foster Wallace; The Pale King; efeito de real; ficção contemporânea.Abstract: This essay starts with the consideration of a significant tension between thematic constantly asserted by the writer David Foster Wallace throughout his fictions and essays and his usage of certain narrative procedures that ultimately lead back to the dead ends of the Flaubertian free indirect discourse, as discussed by Moretti. Through a contrastive reading between Moretti's and Rancière's analyses of the social changes that are given expression through Flaubert's narrative form, this work explores the hypothesis that Wallace seeks to transmit through his fiction a kind of learning of attention -which forms the basis of Realist prose -that ultimately goes against the very transformations undergone by narrative technique in the course of the historical process.
