Resumo: O presente artigo tem por escopo examinar as teorias conservacionistas dos parques e unidades de conservação, com enfoque especial no ambientalismo, e sua relação com a população afetada, no Bairro Lagomar, localizado no Município de Macaé-RJ, em decorrência do Parque Nacional da Restinga de Jurubatiba, localizado no litoral dos Municípios de Carapebus, Macaé e Quissamã. Criado em abril de 1998, o Parque tem por objetivo proteger e preservar amostras dos ecossistemas de restinga e possibilitar o desenvolvimento de pesquisa científica e educação. Neste cenário, as criações de unidades de conservação e proteção integral deste tipo estão no centro de uma série de conflitos socioambientais, os quais opõem as comunidades tradicionais e os administradores das unidades de conservação, pesquisadores e conservacionistas. Tal fato decorre da premissa que aludidas unidades segregam comunidades dos ecossistemas que, até então, eram exploradas com relativo equilíbrio, porquanto, no centro desta política, está assentada uma ideologia que compreende a relação homem-natureza como inevitavelmente predatória, não prevendo que formas tradicionais de manejo e exploração dos ecossistemas têm assegurado há séculos, concomitantemente, a preservação das áreas naturais, em especial as áreas costeias, e a subsistência de diversas populações tradicionais. O método empregado na construção do presente foi o hipotético-dedutivo, assentado em revisão bibliográfica e cotejo de dados secundários.
