RESUMO Este artigo discute a relação entre a pessoa surda, sua musicalidade e caminhos para seu desenvolvimento. Contrapomos ideias deterministas que consideram a irregularidade orgânica como quantitativamente pior, propondo novos olhares capazes de percebê-la por um prisma qualitativamente diferente. O alicerce da discussão é fundamentado na Teoria Histórico-cultural, cujos conceitos e modos de tratar o fenômeno constituem o que Vigotski afirma como o próprio método. Por essa via, indicamos a importância de enxergar a pessoa surda como um ser de possibilidades capaz de vivenciar sua musicalidade, e de desenvolver-se musicalmente. Imersas no imaginário do silêncio, muitas vezes são invisibilizadas e afastadas da possibilidade de relação com os fenômenos sonoros. Desenvolvemo-nos de forma integral e a musicalidade faz parte deste processo, superando a necessidade de possuir uma audição considerada como regular. A irregularidade biológica, embora existente, caminha em seu desenvolvimento permeada pela cultura. Assim, conclui-se defendendo que experiências e vivências musicais voltadas para o desenvolvimento das musicalidades precisam ser consideradas e organizadas por meio de processos educativos voltados para esse fim, independentemente de a pessoa ser ou não surda.
