O aleitamento materno é a melhor forma de nutrição para os lactentes e promove muitos benefícios tanto para os bebês quanto para as mães. Ele vai muito além da nutrição, já que estimula diretamente o crescimento dos ossos e estruturas da face, como os músculos e futuros dentes. Além disso, evita o desenvolvimento de hábitos deletérios, que afetam o posicionamento dentário e ósseo, e más oclusões. Diante de todos esses benefícios para o bebê, o aleitamento materno deve ser sempre ressaltado na promoção de saúde bucal. O objetivo deste trabalho foi realizar uma revisão de literatura sobre a importância do aleitamento materno para a saúde bucal do bebê, com o intuito de contribuir com informações e sensibilizar os profissionais da odontologia quanto à relevância desse tema na promoção de saúde bucal. O presente estudo foi desenvolvido a partir de uma revisão bibliográfica, através de pesquisas de artigos científicos e periódicos. Pôde-se observar que o aleitamento materno contribui de maneira positiva para a saúde do bebê, uma vez que auxilia no adequado desenvolvimento nutricional e psicológico da criança, além de favorecer a correta formação do crânio e da face. A amamentação contribui nas funções de mastigação, respiração e fonação, além de prevenir hábitos de sucção deletérios e más oclusões. Verificou-se a importância de ações preventivas e educativas, realizadas pelos profissionais de saúde, com orientações sobre o aleitamento materno. É relevante que as mães sejam incentivadas em relação à amamentação natural, e instruídas a agirem na promoção de saúde de seus filhos.
