O estudo busca retratar os etconhecimentos dos Paiterey sobre plantas, em conformidade com suas vivências e experiências ancestralmente adquiridas, que exercem poder de cura. Essas plantas são fundamentais na promoção da saúde em muitas regiões do Brasil, em particular para os povos originários que detêm um conhecimento etnobotânico e as utilizam no tratamento das enfermidades. O uso popular dessas plantas é uma prática antiga com acúmulo de informações que são reaplicadas entre sucessivas gerações. Em decorrência do convívio dos indígenas com a cultura da sociedade envolvente, o patrimônio cognitivo tradicional viu-se hibridizada com outras práticas de saúde moderna que muitas vezes subjugam a vasta experiência trazida pelos indígenas. Este estudo se propõe a analisar especificamente o caso da Aldeia Paiter - Linha 09, Terra Indígena Sete de Setembro, localizada a aproximadamente 50 quilômetros de Cacoal, Estado de Rondônia. Para tanto, o percurso metodológico adotado quanto ao recorte temporal e espacial e à abordagem dos sujeitos da pesquisa, com enfoque qualitativo de estudo de caso, em que procura destacar e interpretar a experiência vivida pelos Paiterey e pelos investigadores acerca da diversidade biológica e paisagísticas constituintes das práticas do etnoconhecimento. A partir de elementos visuais e narrativos (relatos, entrevistas e reuniões com os Paiterey), os quais emergem elementos mítico-espirituais e práticos da etnomedicina, associados à diversidade biológica do território, a qual se relaciona à própria defesa territorial. Assim, a busca consiste em apreender a finalidade de plantas com poder originárias da floresta, bem como sua ressignificação como elemento importante nas estratégias de cooperação entre os atores sociais, tais como a academia, ao tempo em que esse povo procura a visibilidade da cultura e reconhecimento de seus direitos socioterritoriais, associadas à formação e capacitação dos futuros líderes indígenas – ainda que a pressão externa exercida sobre seu território implica em perdas da biodiversidade.
