Penelitian mengenai sifat fisis dan mekanik eternit berbasis serat tandan kosong kelapa sawit (TKKS) telah dilakukan. Pembuatan eternit berbasis serat TKKS merupakan usaha untuk mengeliminir bahaya dari serat asbes yang persediaanya terbatas. Metode penyusunan serat dengan variasi persentase serat 5%, 10%, 15%, 20%, 25%, 30% dan 35% terhadap vulume CaCO3 dan sebuk marmer. Dalam penelitian ini digunakan campuran serat TKKS, semen, powder marmer dan batu kapur. Hasil pengamatan menunjukkan bahwa eternit berbasis serat TKKS menghasilkan karakteristik beton serat pada kondisi optimum menghasilkan nilai daya hantar panas (λ) = 0,623 kkal/mhoC, kerapatan (ρ) = 1519 k g/cm3, daya serap air = 24,28 %, kekuatan lentur = 92,016 kg/cm2. Penggunaan serat TKSS pada produksi eternit memiliki potensi untuk diproduksi secara masal. Nilai daya hantar panas, kerapatan dan daya serap air telah memenuhi standar eternit, sedangkan kuat lentur belum memenuhi standar.Kata kunci : eternit,serat, TKKS
Abstrak Limbah minyak goreng (minyak jelantah) yang berasal dari sector rumah tangga maupun kegiatan industri makanan dapat memberikan dampak negatif bagi lingkungan dan kelangsungan hidup manusia jika tidak ditangani dengan baik. Salah satu cara yang dapat dilakukan yaitu dengan mengadakan kegiatan pemberdayaan masyarakat untuk mengelola limbah minyak jelantah menjadi barang yang memiliki nilai jual , misalnya sabun. Proses pembuatan sabun meliputi persiapan alat dan bahan, melakukan penjernihan minyak jelantah, pencampuran semua bahan, pencetakan dan pengemasan. Pelaksanaan kegiatan pemberdayaan masyarakat terkait dengan pengelolaan minyak jelantah menjadi sabun melalui beberapa tahapan kegiatan. Dimulai dengan melakukan sosialisasi, penyuluhan, praktek pembuatan sabun dan evaluasi serta pendampingan. Program pemberdayaan masyarakat ini dapat mendukung terciptanya lingkungan yang produktif, ekonomi mandiri dan juga kreatifitas masyarakat. Produk sabun yang dihasilkan memiliki beberapa keunggulan dari produk sabun pada umumnya yakni, ramah lingkungan karena menggunakan bahan-bahan alami sebagai komposisi pelengkap. Memiliki nilai estetika dalam hal bentuk, warna, dan aroma. Kemudian, sabun ini pula merupakan suistainable product yang minim resiko pemakaian. Abstract Cooking oil waste (used cooking oil) originating from the household sector and food industry activities can have a negative impact on the environment and human survival if not handled properly. One of the ways that can be done is by holding community empowerment activities to manage used cooking oil waste into goods that have a selling value, for example soap. The process of making soap includes preparing tools and materials, purifying used cooking oil, mixing all ingredients, printing and packaging. The implementation of community empowerment activities related to the management of used cooking oil into soap through several stages of activity. Starting with socialization, counseling, soap making practice and evaluation and assistance. This community empowerment program can support the creation of a productive environment, an independent economy and community creativity. The resulting soap products have several advantages over soap products in general, namely, they are environmentally friendly because they use natural ingredients as a complementary composition. Inventories of oil palm empty fruit bunches palm (EFBP) at oil palm factories are very abundant. This will be a problem if the handling is not serious. Utilization of EFBP fiber as a technical material is one effort that can be done in order to help reduce the problem of EFBP waste in palm oil mill. EFBP fibers as the substance of fibrous cement board aims to reduce to the weight of the material without lowering its strength. The method of making fibrous cement board by mixing EFBP fiber into dough with 12% marble powder ratio, 10% CaCO3 powder and EFBP fiber volume and portland cement are varied. The addition of EFBP fibers as much as 16% of the total volume can decrease the weight by 15.2%. The results showed that the cement board based on EFBP fibers under optimum conditions has a tensile strength of 1.58 Mpa, density (ρ) of 1519 k g / cm3 and bending strength of 2.61 MPa.
