Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access (WiMAX) is currently one of the hottest technologies in wireless, it's a standard-based on the IEEE 802.16 wireless technology that provides high throughput broadband connections over long distance, which supports Point to Multi-point (PMP) broadband wireless access. In parallel, voice Over Internet Protocol is a promising new technology which provides access to voice communication over internet protocol based network, it becomes an alternative to public switched telephone networks due to its capability of transmission of voice as packets over IP networks. Therefore VoIP is largely intolerant of delay and hence it needs a high priority transmission. In this paper we investigate the performances of the most common VoIP codecs, which are G.711, G.723.1 and G.729 over a WiMAX network using various service classes and NOAH as a transport protocol. To analyze the QoS parameters, the popular network simulator ns-2 was used. Various parameters that determine QoS of real life usage scenarios and traffic flows of applications is analyzed. The objective is to compare different types of service classes with respect to the QoS parameters, such as, throughput, average jitter and average delay.
To satisfy the increasing demand for multimedia services in broadband Internet networks, the WiMAX (Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Acces) technology has emerged as an alternative to the wired broadband access solutions. It provides an Internet connection to broadband coverage area of several kilometers in radius by ensuring a satisfactory quality of service (QoS), it's an adequate response to some rural or inaccessible areas. Unlike DSL (Digital Subscriber Line) or other wired technology, WiMAX uses radio waves and can provide point-to-multipoint (PMP) and point-to-point (P2P) modes. In parallel, it's observed that in the opposite of the traditional quality evaluation approaches, nowadays, current researches focus on the user perceived quality, the existing scheduling algorithms take into account the QoS and many other parameters, but not the Quality of Experience (QoE). In this paper, we present a QoE-based scheduling solution in WiMAX network in order to make the scheduling of the UGS connections based on the use of QoE metrics. Indeed, the proposed solution allows controlling the packet transmission rate so as to match with the minimum subjective rate requirements of each user. Simulation results show that by applying various levels of mean opinion score (MOS) the QoE provided to the users is improved in term of throughput, jitter, packet loss rate and delay.

In this paper, we develop a scheduling algorithm to provide QoE to the WiMAX network. A novel approach is proposed, especially for the Best Effort (BE) WiMAX service class, in this approach if there has been a packet loss on a connection, the system reduces the transmission rate of this connection, until achieving its minimum allowable transmission rate. Simulation results on NS-2 simulator show that by applying various levels of mean opinion score (MOS) the QoE provided to the users is enhanced in term of throughput, jitter, packet loss rate and delay.
