El objetivo del presente estudio fue determinar la presencia de Enterobacteriales en alimentos balanceados (AB) para mascotas que se comercializan al granel en la ciudad de Cuenca, Ecuador. Se tomaron muestras de AB de cinco marcas comerciales, que se expenden al granel en tiendas de abasto ubicadas en cinco mercados de abastos Feria Libre, 10 de Agosto, 9 de Octubre, 12 de Abril, 3 de Noviembre y 27 de Febrero ubicados en la ciudad de Cuenca-Ecuador, (n = 30 muestras). La técnica utilizada para la cuantificación de las colonias de Escherichia coli fue el conteo en placa, y para la detección de Salmonella spp., se realizó el método basado en medios de cultivo selectivos y diferenciales. Se encontró contaminación con E. coli de 6,7 % y con Salmonella spp. de 36,7 % de las muestras.
