Abstract. The linear relationship among Brillouin frequency shift, strain and temperature has been analyzed in this paper. The microwave heterodyne detection for the Brillouin frequency shift was studied and employed to establish a bridge safety monitoring system. The detection and demodulation of the signals from the microwave heterodyne Brillouin sensing system have been simulated based on the LabVIEW through the development of VI programs.
