INTRODUÇÃO: Nos idosos, a má qualidade do sono implica numa diminuição da capacidade física, possibilitando o aumento no risco de quedas, bem como, declínio cognitivo e baixa qualidade de vida. OBJETIVO: analisar a associação entre o perfil sociodemográfico e a qualidade do sono de idosos de um serviço de saúde. MÉTODOS: Trata-se de um estudo transversal, descritivo e quantitativo, com amostra de 50 idosos vinculados a Estratégia Saúde da Família, no município do estado do Ceará, submetidos à aplicação de questionário sociodemográfico e o Índice de Qualidade do Sono de Pittsburgh. A análise dos dados foi organizada a partir da estatística descritiva e fundamentada com a literatura sobre sono e idoso. O estudo foi submetido ao Comitê de Ética e Pesquisa da Universidade Estadual do Ceará sob o parecer de Nº 1.958.208, CAAE: 63684316.0.0000.5534. RESULTADOS: Dos idosos que apresentaram má qualidade de sono ou distúrbio do sono, 40% tinham idade entre 66 e 73 anos, 72% eram mulheres, 48% eram casados ou união estável e 64% eram aposentados. CONCLUSÃO: Encontrou-se a maior ocorrência de sono ruim em relação ao sexo foi nas mulheres, sendo 84,2% com Má Qualidade e 76,9% com Distúrbio do Sono.
