Medicinal plants have been used to cure human diseases since decades. Silybum marianum, a medicinal plant, is regarded as a source of secondary metabolites with therapeutic value against liver diseases and diabetes. The present study was conducted to enrich the production of secondary metabolites in the vegetative parts of Silybum marianum using elicitation strategy in hydroponic system with different elicitors. The elicitors of fungus Aspergillus niger (0.2 g/L), methyl jasmonate (MeJA) (100 μM) and silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) (1 ppm) were added in hydroponic medium, individually and in combination form to the 15 days old plant. The elicitor-treated plants were harvested at different time points (24–144 h; increment 24 h) and their biochemical parameters like phenolics, flavonoids, nitric oxide (NO), and superoxide dismutase (SOD) were analyzed. The results showed hyper-accumulation of these biochemical contents, especially in response to MeJA (100 μM), followed by AgNPs (1 ppm) and co-treatment of AgNPs (1 ppm) with other elicitors. The results revealed that the treatment with MeJA (100 μM) exhibited the highest flavonoid (304 μg g–1), phenolic (372 μg g–1), and SOD (16.2 U g–1) contents. For NO levels, the maximum value of 198.6 nmole g–1 was achieved in response to the treatment with MeJA + Green synthesized AgNPs (100 μM + 1 ppm). Our findings depicted an enhanced production of medicinally important plant secondary metabolites and antioxidants; hence, the method applied in this study can play a significant role to improve therapeutic values of the plants.
The ACL joins the thighbone's (femur) bottom to the shinbone's top (tibia). The ACL aids in the stability of the knee. If the anterior cruciate ligament is stretched too far, it might rip. The tear could be partial (through a section of the ACL) or full (through the entire ACL) (all the way through the ACL).Objective: To determine the grading and evaluation of ACL Injuries on Magnetic Resonance Imaging.Material and Methods: A Descriptive cross sectional study was conducted in 9 Months from January 2021 to September 2021. The data of 103 Patients was collected through convenient sampling in Radiology Department including Anterior Cruciate Ligament Injuries in all the population diagnosed on Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI). Physical complaints, Patient History and Demographic data were displayed on patient’s reports and used for data analysis. MRI scans was performed on 1.5 T- Scanner (Phillips) and data was collected, recorded and analyzed on SPSS as frequency tables and Pie Charts. Results:A total of 103 Patients were included following Grade 1, Grade 2 & Grade 3 Injuries. The data was collected and distributed into Three Age groups commonly 26-35 have 49 (47.6%) and the occurrence of ACL Injuries in specific gender as 74 females and 29 males. Grade 1 contains 49 (47.6%). The Grade 2 Injuries on ACL evaluated the frequency 35 (34%) Partial Tear which is due to a stretch but did not tear and making ligament loosen it. Grade 3 has the most Severe ACL Injuries with Complete Ligament Tear diagnosed on Magnetic Resonance Imaging and shows the frequency of 19 (18.4). Female Patients associated with Athletics and Sports activities were more common. Conclusion:In conclusion the ACL Injuries are common in Female because of Sports and Athletic Injuriesbecause of the smaller intercondylar notch. Women are three times more likely than males to sustain ACL injuries. MRI is the gold standard for diagnosing ACL injuries, and it has demonstrated to be quite accurate
Carcinoma of breast is now the most frequent of all cancers, both in male and female malignancies. It is also the fifth leading cause of death from all types of malignancies, and the first among those tumors that kill women. Objective: To assess the knowledge about breast cancer screening among female faculty of University of Lahore, Pakistan. Methods: This was a cross-sectional descriptive research that used a non-probability purposive sampling technique. After getting permission from the participants, data from 356 female faculty members at the University of Lahore was obtained. SPSS version 22 was used to evaluate and enter the data. Results: The findings suggested that female faculty members had a moderate understanding of cancer screening. Even though majority of the participants were aware that mammography is a fundamental and conventional technique for breast cancer screening, they were unaware of when to begin and how frequently it should be done. Respondents also knew what breast self-examination (BSE) and clinical breast examination (CBE) were, but they didn't know when they should begin or how often they should be conducted. Conclusions: In summary, female academic staff at the University of Lahore have a moderate level of knowledge. It is suggested that breast cancer screening methods be made more widely known and educated about through frequent conferences and seminars highlighting the proper age and time for starting BSE, CBE, and Mammography, as well as the need of doing these procedures on a regular basis.
: Heart failure (HF) is a chronic illness with high prevalence and mortality, leading to economic burden of health due to prolonged hospital stay and re-admissions. Failure to comprehend the importance of identifying mental illnesses could lead to explanations that why the morbidity and mortality of heart failure patients endure to be very high. Objective: To determine the frequency of anxiety and depression in heart failure patients. Methods: It is a descriptive cross sectional study including 323 CHF patients admitted to the Faisalabad Institute of Cardiology hospital, 250 were males and 73 were females, mean age was 54.1 ± 9.2 years having 70 years as maximum and 25 years as minimum. Data was collected with the help of HADS questionnaire. Patients were interviewed for assessment of anxiety and depression. Data was analyzed using SPSS version 24. Mean and standard deviation was calculated for quantitative data and for qualitative data frequency and percentages was calculated. To measure the association of anxiety and depression with age categories and gender, chi square test was used. P values less than and equal to 0.05 were taken as significant. Results: The results showed that 43% subjects had <11 score indicating no anxiety, 57% had >11 score indicating anxiety. 45% subjects had<11 score indicating no depression, 55% had >11 score indicating depression. Conclusions: The study concluded that frequency of depression and anxiety is high in congestive heart failure patients. Strategies are required to assess and diagnose these mental illnesses to establish early treatment which may foster multidisciplinary health care team approach and interventions that address the psychological burden.
Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) is a subgroup of retrovirus causing HIV infection which if prolongs turns into a progressive failure of the immune system called as acquired immunodeficiency syndrome. It is commonly prevalent in Male Transgenders who are born male and disobeys the cultural defined social norms and identify themselves as a female. The objective was to assess knowledge, Attitudes and Practices of Transgender Community regarding Transmission of Human Immunodeficiency Virus in Lahore, Pakistan. A Descriptive Cross-sectional Survey was conducted in Nine Towns of Lahore. A sample size of 79 was calculated and data was collected in duration of 9 months. A self-administered survey-based questionnaire was developed using WHO and National AIDS control Programme guidelines followed and pilot tested. Data was collected after Informed consent. The mean age of Respondents was 29.56 ± 8.27 years with minimum and maximum age as 19 and 50. In this study the mean knowledge score of the transgender about HIV Transmission was 2.804±0.32, the mean score of attitudes of transgender were 3.25±0.19 and the mean practice score was 2.931±0.28.Majority of the transgender have insufficient knowledge, and bad attitude towards their health. They have unsafe sexual practice and Drug Interventions playing a significant role in HIV epidemic. Majority of them are uneducated, unemployed and found sex selling and dancing an easiest way of earning. Their knowledge about HIV screening, transmission, and antiretroviral therapy is low.
