O objetivo deste texto é apresentar uma reflexão sobre o papel atribuído por Georg Simmel às exposições no âmbito de sua análise da cultura emergente nas grandes cidades de fim do século XIX. Concentrado sobre as leituras de dois ensaios nos quais o autor aborda diferentes tipos de exposições, a de obras de arte e a de produtos industriais – a saber, Über Kunstausstellungen (Sobre Exposições de Arte), de 1890, e Berliner Gewerbe-Ausstellung (Exposição Industrial de Berlim), de 1896, respectivamente –, busco situá-los no interior da sua formulação mais detalhada acerca da modernidade, sua temporalidade, configurações espaciais, percepção subjetiva e o processo constante de afetação mútua entre estas e as relações sociais. Para a composição desse quadro recorro também a outros textos de Simmel publicados posteriormente, especialmente para retraçar o desenvolvimento de sua abordagem a partir da elaboração do conceito de ‘estilo de vida’, elaborado em seu livro Philosophie des Geldes (Filosofia do Dinheiro), de 1900.Palavras-chave: Georg Simmel; exposições de arte; exposição industrial; modernidade; metrópole.
Discursos populares e acadêmicos enquadram o bullying como algo que uma criança homofóbica dirige a outra, uma pessoa gay, lésbica ou bissexual, geralmente a primeira estando em posição mais elevada em relação a segunda, e com resultados frequentemente desastrosos. Este artigo destrincha esses discursos na atualidade e enfatiza o importante papel de interações agressivas em jogo na socialização de gênero entre meninos. A partir de um estudo de caso de bullying homofóbico entre adolescentes do sexo masculino, este artigo sugere que o estudo desse tipo de agressões é menos importante no que tange patologias individuais e mais relevante como uma forma de socialização de gênero e um mecanismo pelo qual a desigualdade de gênero é reproduzida. Uma abordagem do bullying focada na desigualdade privilegiaria o exame das interações, ao invés de qualidades individuais de agressores e vítimas; em vez de presumir um equilíbrio de poder entre iguais, investigaria as várias relações em que se dão tais interações agressivas, como as amizades; e estabeleceria um novo vocabulário do bullying para ser compreendido como um problema social que não está restrito a relações de pessoas jovens, mas reflete desigualdades estruturais bem mais amplas.
Com o advento da arte contemporânea, nos anos de 1960 e em diante, as regras que regem as condutas no sistema da arte foram alteradas, afetando e acolhendo linguagens artísticas emergentes de caráter não objetual; mudanças estas que parecem ter estabelecido novos processos de legitimação de carreiras artísticas. Essa hipótese orientou o escopo de análise em dois projetos de pesquisa sobre jovens artistas visuais da arte contemporânea no Brasil e no Uruguai. Este artigo se propõe a reunir e comparar os dados de ambas investigações a fim de: 1) tratar da importância de jovens artistas para o funcionamento do circuito artístico da arte contemporânea; 2) indicar as similaridades e diferenças acerca da construção de carreiras artísticas no Brasil e no Uruguai; 3) apresentar quem são os/as/xs jovens artistas de ambos contextos; e 4) compreender suas estratégias em busca de legitimação.
Este texto deriva de pesquisa sobre a atuação de agentes intermediários no universo artístico brasileiro que venho realizando em meu doutoramento, mas resulta de um deslocamento de ponto de vista e enfoque realizada no contexto de um estágio de pesquisa nos Estados Unidos, de onde proponho analisar o papel das exposições de arte visuais no processo de (re)formulação de uma dimensão estética da geografia. Trago aportes teóricos sociológicos e da história da arte sobre o estudo da atuação de intermediários no universo artístico, e das exposições como eventos/contextos em que obras de arte se apresentam na esfera pública, compondo sua dimensão estética. A partir de algumas exposições e outras iniciativas de agentes intermediários baseados nos Estados Unidos, apresento exemplos de como se constitui a categoria 'arte latinoamericana' em diferentes períodos.
