The structure type of bicontinuous cubic phase formed by 1,2-bis(4′-n-alkoxybenzoyl)hydrazines (BABH) was strongly dependent on the alkoxy chain length, showing the phase sequence of Ia3d–Im3m–Ia3d with lengthening the chain.
One of the objectives of the Journal of Inherited MetaboTic Disease is to co-ordinate much of the previously scattered literature. The Editors have therefore accepted this series of short papers selected by the Japanese with a financial contribution to the costs. One or more of the authors is also a member of SSIEM.

The crystal structure of potassium (-)ssg-tris(1,2-benzenediolato)arsenate(V) sesquihydrate, (-)sa9-K[As(cat)3]. 1"5H20, has been determined from three-dimensional data collected by a diffractometer. The crystals are orthorhombic with space group P2~2121 : a= 12.901, b = 24"852, c= 11.888 A and Z= 8. The structure was refined to an R value of 0.055 for the 1428 observed refiexions. The complex anion has an approximate symmetry D3. Each ligand molecule is coordinated to the central arsenic atom by their oxygen atoms with the average As-O distance of 1.84 A,. All the bond distances and angles are normal. The absolute configuration of the complex anion was determined by the absorption edge technique. It can be designated as A, in accordance with a spectroscopic assignment based on the circular dichroism spectra.
In order to examine the independent and combined effects of depressive symptoms and traumatic brain injury on event-related potential (ERP) components, we classified traumatic brain injury (TBI) patients as depressed and non-depressed mood according to their scores on the Zung Self-rating Depression Scale (SDS). Non-depressed mood post-traumatic brain injury patients (NondepTBI, n=9), depressed mood post-traumatic brain injury patients (DepTBI, n=26), and normal healthy control subjects (HC, n=10) were assessed for N100, N200, and P300 latencies and amplitudes by the auditory "oddball paradigm". DepTBI subjects had significantly prolonged N200 latency and low P300 amplitude compared with the NondepTBI and HC groups. A longer P300 latency in the NondepTBI and DepTBI than in the HC groups was found. A prolongation of N200 latency accompanied by low P300 amplitude may be a characteristic of post-traumatic brain injury patients with depressed mood. Prolonged P300 latency may be more closely associated with TBI than with depression, as it was significantly greater in both the DepTBI and NondepTBI, than in the HC group.
