We developed a system to conduct posture-measurable virtual prism adaptation therapy using an inside-out tracking stand-alone virtual reality system. This system enables the construction of a unilateral spatial neglect (USN) treatment room that is closed off from external stimuli from all surroundings in a hospital or home. Furthermore, it expands the prism adaptation body adaptive site, which was previously limited to the hand, to include the whole body using a symbolic body. This expansion allows for utilization of the new prism adaptation therapy in which giving postural feedback and the head is spontaneously turned to the neglected side. This prism adaptation is expected to improve the posture of patients with USN and turn the field of vision itself toward the neglected space.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
