Ce-substituted fibrous YIG (Y3-X

Fe5O12; Ce:YIG) single crystals were successfully grown by a floating zone method using YAG laser heating. We observed that Ce:YIG crystals show uniform distribution of Ce in the YIG crystal and an excellent magnetooptical property in the near-infrared region up to the Ce substitution of X=0.3. However, the solubility limit of Ce into the YIG crystal was confirmed to be approximately 0.3 in our growth method, by the composition analysis, lattice constant and Faraday rotation measurements. Ce-substituted YIG with X=0.3 shows a large Faraday rotation and small optical absorption coefficient in the wavelength region of 1.51–1.57 µm and is expected to be applicable to the optical isolator.
Laser by DetunedWavelength switchings of a Fabry-Perot semiconductor laser are experimentally demonstrated by applying externally optical input pulses detuned from a cavity-resonant wavelength of the semiconductor laser with a constant injection current. The wavelength region of optical switching ranges from less than 0.1 nm to several nm over gain spectrum, being locked to the wavelength of optical inputs. These behaviors are based on multistability and multi-split branches in the optical output versus detuned optical input characteristics, caused by the carrier-induced reLractive index change accompanied by optical injections. The experimental results are believed to be useful L0r wavelength division multiplexing and exchange in optical communication.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
