Mesiodens is a midline supernumerary tooth commonly seen in the maxillary arch, and incidence of molariform mesiodens in the maxillary midline is rare in permanent dentition and extremely uncommon in primary dentition. A midline supernumerary tooth in the primary dentition can cause ectopic or delayed eruption of permanent central incisors which will further alter occlusion and may compromise esthetics and formation of dentigerous cysts. This paper reports a rare case of the presence of a molariform mesiodens in the primary dentition. On clinical and radiographic examination, flaring of the primary central incisors was seen, with a molariform mesiodens consisting of multiple lobes or tubercles on the occlusal surface with the well-formed root. The treatment plan consisted of the extraction of the supernumerary tooth and regular observation of permanent central incisors for proper eruption and alignment.

Background: Titanium and its alloys are being extensively researched and are applied relatively in different fields of dentistry since 1970s. Its inherent advantages like high strength, ductility, low modulus of elasticity, ease of formation of oxidized surface layer, ability to retain mechanical integrity after autoclave and relatively low toxicity has led to extensive application of titanium and its alloys in implant dentistry.

Methods: The Titanium alloy Ti-6Al-4V dental implant material used for the present study was procured from Mishra Dhatu Nigam (Midhani, Hyderabad). The mechanically polished samples were etched using Kroll’s reagent (5% hydrofluoric acid+10% nitric acid+85% water). The etched specimens were examined under optical microscope.

Results: The primary α phase being the low temperature phase, is stable and shows single phase microstructure. The size and volume fraction of the primary α and transformed β phases depend on the solution treatment temperatures and the subsequent rate of cooling.

Conclusions: The success of the treatment modality relies on the knowledge of the properties required to employ them at the right situation.

ABSTRACT:With the advancement in the area of cosmetic dentistry, the dental profession has been offered new opportunities in conservative and esthetic restorative procedures. Multiple options are available to treat problems arising in the zone of high esthetic sensitivity. The use of porcelain laminate veneers to solve esthetic and/or functional problems has shown to be a valid treatment option especially in the anterior esthetic zone. The techniques and the materials employed to fabricate porcelain laminate veneers offer satisfactory, predictable and lasting results. The current porcelain veneers are esthetically superior, conservative and durable treatment modality.
