This was a qualitative exploratory study, which aimed to investigate how health professionals working in delivery care perceive the humanization of the birth process. 17 professionals who work in the area were interviewed. The data were obtained through semi-structured interviews and processed through thematic analysis. During the data analysis 3 categories emerged: the meaning of humanization of birth; the humanization practice in the studied services; and difficulties of the humanization process. The results show that the humanization of birth care is not yet a common practice in most of the studied hospitals and that the staff is not prepared to provide a humanized and qualified service for mothers and newborns. We conclude that it is essential to change the biomedical model from a mainly technical approach to an approach that values the social and cultural aspects of pregnancy and delivery.

Introduction: Malaria remains an important public health problem despite recent scientific breakthroughs regarding knowledge about malaria and treatment strategies. The objective of this study was to analyze malaria patients' knowledge about the disease, its treatment and prevention, linking it to drug treatment adherence. Methodology: A descriptive, cross-sectional, epidemiological survey study was conducted in the district of Três Fronteiras-MT. The study included 618 individuals who were interviewed and examined for Plasmodium infection. Of the 52 patients diagnosed with malaria, 27 were visited at home for an interview about malaria knowledge and treatment adherence. Treatment adherence was evaluated by self-reports and drug conference. Results: A total of 18 patients had satisfactory knowledge (66.6%) and 9 were evaluated as having unsatisfactory knowledge (33.4%) about malaria. Of the 27 malaria patients, 21 (77.8%) reported having taken all the medication as prescribed, in the correct period of time and dosage, and had no medication tablets remaining. The majority (72.2%) of patients who had satisfactory knowledge, as well as the majority (88.8%) of those who had unsatisfactory knowledge, adhered to the malaria treatment. Conclusions: This study revealed a high proportion of patients with satisfactory prior knowledge about malaria and revealed that this knowledge was not related to disease treatment adherence. These results have implications for planning strategies for malaria control in the region and could contribute to the reduction in the cases of non-adherence to malaria treatment.

RESUMO:Estudo exploratório-descritivo cujo objetivo foi descrever a adesão e reações de usuários em relação ao tratamento antimalárico em um município de Mato Grosso, Brasil. Os dados foram coletados com 16 usuários através de entrevistas semi-estruturadas e analisados usando-se a Análise de Conteúdo. O estudo revelou que há pessoas que aderem parcialmente ao tratamento antimalárico e outras que procuram tratamentos alternativos. Aos primeiros sinais e sintomas da malária, a maior parte dos usuários procura os serviços de saúde para diagnóstico e tratamento, provavelmente por ter conhecimento sobre a doença, a transmissão e o tratamento da mesma; pela facilidade de acesso ao serviço que oferece diagnóstico e tratamento gratuito; e pelo bom relacionamento com os agentes de saúde. Concluiu-se que apesar do sucesso de algumas ações do governo para controle da malária, ainda há necessidade de investimento em ações educativas e de vigilância em saúde. USER ADHERENCE AND REACTIONS TO MALARIA TREATMENT: IMPLICATIONS FOR HEALTH EDUCATIONABSTRACT: This descriptive and exploratory study proposed to describe the user adherence and their reactions to anti-malaria treatment in a municipality in the western region of Brazil. Data was collected through interviewing 16 users and analyzed using Content Analysis. The study revealed that there are people who adhere partially to anti-malaria treatment and others who seek alternative treatments. The results showed that upon the first signs and symptoms starting, most users sought health care services for diagnosis and treatment, probably from knowledge about the disease, transmission, and treatment. Justifications given for such decision were for the ease of access the public health service, which offers free diagnosis and treatment, and the good rapport with the health care workers. It was concluded that although some government actions to control malaria have seen success there is still need for investment in health education actions and health surveillance. RESUMOO presente estudo é descritivo-exploratório de abordagem qualitativa e teve como objetivo conhecer as medidas preventivas utilizadas pelos habitantes de um município de Mato Grosso para o controle da malária. Fizeram parte da pesquisa 16 sujeitos. Os dados foram coletados por meio de entrevistas semiestruturadas, direcionadas por roteiro composto de perguntas fechadas sobre as características dos participantes e abertas sobre as medidas preventivas que eles utilizavam para lidar com a doença. Os relatos foram organizados e arranjados em categorias, as quais foram analisadas e discutidas tendo-se como base a produção bibliográfica existente sobre o assunto e a experiência prévia das pesquisadoras. Os resultados evidenciaram que as medidas de prevenção adotadas pela população não são homogêneas, sendo a maior parte delas as preconizadas pelo Ministério da Saúde. No entanto, alguns entrevistados utilizam outras formas de prevenir-se contra a malária, derivadas de suas crenças, e há aqueles que preferem não utilizar meios de evitar a doença, por não acreditarem em sua efetividade.Palavras-chave: Prevenção Primária.
