O planejamento e execução da construção são ações importantes para a produção de suínos; uma vez construída, qualquer alteração estrutural torna-se difícil e onerosa. Para investigar as transferências de calor em construção para suínos, foi realizado um estudo de campo. A execução deu-se a partir da visita técnica em quatro fazendas, com diferentes plantas executivas. Um foi construído em pedra ardósia, os outros em alvenaria convencional. Os critérios analisados são vegetação circundante, área de exposição, posicionamento solar e transferência de calor por condução. Os resultados demonstram que o sombreamento da vegetação pode contribuir significativamente para o conforto térmico da edificação, reduzindo os gastos com energia elétrica com climatização. Conclui-se que a avaliação de que o reflorestamento e o posicionamento solar são condições fundamentais para reduzir as transferências de calor, contribuindo para a sustentabilidade da produção, evitando problemas futuros com gastos com ar-condicionado.
