Introdução: As Práticas Integrativas e Complementares gradativamente têm se fortalecido expressivamente desde que se tornaram uma realidade no âmbito da saúde e uma Política Nacional de Práticas Integrativas e Complementares (PNPIC) em 2006. No entanto, a aplicabilidade dessas práticas integrativas no processo de cuidar em enfermagem e a relação com a função do enfermeiro merecem ser refletidas, mesmo passados 14 anos após implementação da PNPIC. Objetivo: evidenciar as práticas integrativas e complementares nos campos de formação e atuação do enfermeiro segundo a produção científica nacional. Revisão: revisão integrativa da literatura realizada nas bases e bancos de dados Lilacs, Bdenf, Medline, Scielo, Mosaico, BVS e Ebsco a partir dos descritores cuidados de enfermagem, educação de enfermagem, terapias alternativas, terapias complementares, no idioma português e disponíveis na íntegra, sendo guiada pela questão: "De que forma as PICs têm sido abordadas e utilizadas nos campos de formação e atuação do enfermeiro? Discussão: O enfermeiro demonstra entendimento que o saber fazer das PICs requer níveis de compreensão e apropriação dos saberes técnicos, científicos e ético da profissão, os quais são deficientes ou negligentes na formação profissional, porém tal lacuna não impede as experiências vividas com as PICS que têm sido evidentemente praticadas com base no empiricismo, prejudicando tal aplicabilidade de maneira competente nas atuações dos enfermeiros. Considerações finais: As PICs têm sido adotadas no fazer em enfermagem, porém a limitação de conhecimento para tal aplicabilidade é consciente por parte dos Enfermeiros, elucidando preocupações para realizá-las e gerenciá-las dentro do processo de cuidado, assim como incentivando melhores formações e espaços dialéticos afins, tanto na área acadêmica, como na educação continuada/permanente.
