In this article, we developed a dual-band band-pass filter (DB-BPF) based on stepped impedance resonators (SIRs) using coupled feeding lines input and output ports. The developed filter allows the adjustment of the frequency and the bandwidth of the upper band (3.8 GHz) and the lower band (2.4 GHz). The transmission coefficients of the DB-BPF are improved by maximizing the coupling between the SIRs. Furthermore, the capability of the rejection band is increased and the insertion losses between the two pass-bands are reduced. The experimental results for the insertion loss (S 21 ) and the return loss (S 11 ) of the lower band (2.4 GHz) were1.0 and 2.0 dB, respectively while the insertion loss and return loss for the upper band (3.8 GHz) were 23 and 25 dB, respectively. The 3 dB fractional bandwidths obtained for both bands were about 200 MHz and four transmission zeros around the passband edges were created to improve the selectivity of the DB-BPF. The overall size of the DB-BPF was also reduced significantly.
BackgroundTongue reconstruction is challenging with the unique function and anatomy. Goals for reconstruction differ depending on the extent of reconstruction. Thin and pliable flaps are useful for tongue tip reconstruction, for appearance and mobility. This study reports lateral arm free flap (LAFF) as a safe and optimal option for hemi-tongue reconstruction, especially for tongue tip after hemiglossectomy.MethodsThirteen LAFFs were performed for hemi-tongue reconstruction after hemiglossectomy from 1995 to 2018. Of the 13 patients, seven were male and six were female, age varying from 24 to 64 years.ResultsAll flaps healed uneventfully without complications. Donor sites were closed primarily. The recipient vessels for microvascular anastomosis were mainly superior thyroidal artery, external jugular vein. All patients returned to normal diet, with no complaints regarding reconstructed tongue and donor site.ConclusionThe LAFF is hairless, thin (especially with lateral epicondyle approach), and potentially sensate. They are advantageous features for tongue tip and hemi-tongue reconstruction. Donor site sacrifices the inessential posterior radial collateral artery, and the scar is hidden under short sleeve shirts. We believe that LAFF can be considered as the first choice flap for hemitongue reconstruction, over radial forearm free flaps.
We suggest a simple way of forming a nonconventional remote phosphor layer for white light-emitting diodes. A printing technology using a paste consisting of yellow (Ba,Sr,Ca)(2)SiO(4):Eu(2+) silicate phosphor and ultraviolet (UV)-curable polymer is applied to form solid planar films on a common soda lime silicate glass substrate through UV radiation. Relative content of the phosphor was adjusted for the best dispersion of the phosphor particles in the polymer matrix with better emission and luminescence performance. As a result, the 70 wt. % phosphor-embedded film has a luminous efficacy of ∼70.1 lm/W at 200 mA.
Various piezoelectric nanostructures have been extensively studied for competitive energy harvesting applications. Here, GaN nanowires grown by a nonconventional magnetic field-assisted chemical vapor deposition process were investigated to characterize the piezoelectric energy harvesting characteristics. As a controlling parameter, only the growth time was changed from 15 min to 90 min to obtain different crystallinity and morphology of the nanowires. Energy harvesting characteristics were found to depend largely on the growth time. A longer growth time tended to lead to an increased output current, which is reasonable when considering the enhanced charge potentials and crystallinity. A maximum output current of ~14.1 nA was obtained for the 90 min-processed nanowires.
