This paper discusses the operational aspects and advantages of dewatering drilling fluids at the rigsite. It covers the use of dewatering for waste control and minimization, as a recycling process for water conservation, and for total solids control. Detailed descriptions of the process and the parameters involved in setting-up and operating dewatering units are presented. A general description of the flocculation process using chemical flocculants and coagulants are also discussed.
